Today RJ and I had the opportunity to help teach the atonement in a personal way to one of our children. It was a very bittersweet time as we rejoiced in second chances but were saddened by the effects of procrastination. The talk ended well and I am grateful for the Lord being with us during our talk and for giving us all second chances, for are we not all beggars?

Today I got a personal witness about the power of fasting. I am very grateful for this witness and I needed it. I love when the Spirit is so strong in your chest that you want to just cry because it feels so warm and you just know that your Father is aware of you. He may not answer you right now and may not answer how you want but He knows you. He loves you. He wants to help you. He is there to protect you. I love that.

4 years ago when I bought Christmas lights for our house I bought one extra. I totally forgot about it. Tonight when we were getting everything ready for the big lighting of the house, everything came on for a second and then everything went dark. We went through all the strands and the lawn nativity and found the problem was in one strand the fuses had blown. Well, we went to the box we kept the lights in for storage thinking maybe another fuse came with the set and we had put it aside. We found the other new strand and everything was fine. RJ replaced the bad strand, we made some cord adjustments and split the load into two outlets and now we have a beautiful, lit house. I know the Lord prompted me years ago to buy an extra strand so that when this happened we wouldn't be running to the store and we had an easy fix. I am very grateful because I LOVE lights!

Day 331 of 2014

I am very grateful for the tender mercies the Lord provided me with all day. We had Thanksgiving dinner at our house today and everything just went very smooth. Nothing went really amiss and the company was great, the food was good and the atmosphere was comfortable. I had a really good day. With all that could have gone wrong I know the Lord blessed our home and made our day go well.

Today RJ got something's figured out at work that made him feel better and now we can enjoy the holiday without him worrying the whole time. I know the Lord softened hearts and helped with the situation so that RJ could get it worked out and feel better. I am grateful for the Lord looking out for our family.

Somedays I just want to pause time and wrap a moment up and keep it. Tonight I am so grateful for my third child. She brings a happy spirit to our house I have never felt with any other child. She has a special light in her that I love. I am so grateful the Lord chose our house for her. Tonight she was interacting with her little sister and it just melted the stress from the day and made me smile. I forgave her right then for the pain she had been being earlier. I know the Lord gives us moments like that as parents so we can see that life really is about family and that is what is most important.

Today, while reading a General Conference talk from this past Conference, I got a very strong reassurance from the Lord that He loves me. He loves Heather. Everyday, every minute. He loves me even with all my faults and weaknesses. It was a very good feeling. I also felt how much He loves everyone, you included. No matter your physique, no matter your social status, no matter your skin color... He loves you. Today. Right this minute. Not in a few years when you have broken that one habit or when you have lost 15 lbs but right NOW. That is a tender mercy I recieve everyday that I can't live without. And neither could you.

RJ's aunt has been in the hospital and for a while it was touch and go. Today they were able to take her off the breathing tube. She is mending but very slowly. I am grateful for the Lord giving second chances and healing to His children. I am grateful for prayers answered and for the strength of faith. The Lord loves all His children.

Today our suburban passed inspection for the year and we didn't have to fix anything on it. This is a great blessing. I thought for sure it would fail. The 'check engine' light came on and I was just very worried. The Lord blessed us immensely by helping it to pass.

Today the Lord prompted me to make a phone call to inform my mom about something when she was on her way to get my children from school. When I got done with my bit of news we both came to the realization she was not going to make it to get them in time. I had called at the perfect moment to have just enough time to jump in the car and get there right as the bell rang. I am so grateful the Lord promoted me to make a simple call.

Today my youngest had her well child visit. I scheduled it over a month ago. Well, she has been sick for almost a week now and I was just thinking of making her an appointment when they called to remind me about the one today, which I had forgotten about. When we went in the doctor was immediately concerned. She, in fact, has pneumonia. I know the Lord knew a head of time about her getting sick. I am so grateful I already had this appointment made and I could take her in.

So I was reading a conference talk and the Lord is healing the man with palsy and He says "Son, thy sins be forgiven thee," and I am thinking to myself, as I do whenever I read stories of Christ forgiving sin, 'how cool would that be. How cool to be clean just like that' and you know what. The Spirit said, 'Silly girl. You receive that every week when you take My sacrament and tell Me you will do better and you strive to be My disciple. Every time you go to the temple, I clean you again. You are blessed with My cleansing touch often. Because I love you just like I love them." The Gospel of Jesus Christ is awesome. I am grateful for His cleansing touch in my life and I am grateful today for His reminder of how blessed I am.

Day 322 of 2014

My oldest daughter wanted to stay home today. She was not sick enough to stay home. I was not in a good mood, as I never am in the morning, and was going to make her go down and get dressed and go to school. I did not want to deal with another child that day as I already have one who is very sick. The Spirit told me to stop, to ask questions and to listen. I am glad that my groggy head obeyed. She was technically not physically sick enough to go to stay home but emotionally she was. She told me the real reason for staying home and I let her. She emailed her teacher and told her what was wrong and her teacher will hopefully help her to sort things out herself at school. I am grateful for the companionship of the Holy Ghost so that the Lord can communicate with me and help me to help my children.

I can't think of any better job in this world than being a mom. My kids try my patience, they give me heartache and headaches, they argue, they disobey and they drive me crazy sometimes. But you know what? They are kids. I love them all for their individuality and for their patience with me as a not-always-chipper mother. I love them all. As we had FHE tonight and I watched them laugh and interact with each other I was very grateful that I was there to share that moment with them. We do a lot as a family together and I like that. The Lord has blessed me to be able to stay home with them and to be there whenever they need something. I know I am blessed to be able to do that and tonight was one of the times the Lord pulled me aside and said, "This is what it is all about, family. They are yours forever just as you are Mine forever. Enjoy and your welcome." I love my family.

Today my sweet nephew turned 5 and we got to party with him. He is proof of God's hand in my life and the life of my family. This boy has struggled to survive and every time he has beat the odds and with faith and lots of love and prayers he is happy and healthy today. Watching his face and hearing his laugh as we sang to him today just melted my heart and made me so grateful the Lord blessed our family and me with this little ray of sunshine. The Lord loves His children, every one.

Today the Lord helped us to find a problem we have. Mice. He inspired us to know where to look to find them. We have caught two today and gotten rid of them so now we have at least one more to catch. With kids and animals I really don't want the diseases they carry so I am very grateful for the Lord's help with this problem.

I am very grateful for those who will teach and pass on family traditions and recipes. I have many in my family who have helped me to keep recipes and traditions alive. Today I am grateful for my Mimi who taught me how to make cranberry sauce for Thanksgiving from a recipe she got from her Auntie. It was fun to learn and fun to have time together. Traditions and family recipes will not live on if the information is not shared. I am grateful for the things I have learned and those willing to share. The Lord blessed me with a very loving family and many traditions worth keeping.

I am grateful the Lord gave us ovens. All the technological advances that had to be made to get us to where we are now is amazing and I am grateful He inspired people so that we have the ovens we do today. I tried out a recipe for homemade rolls I got from my Auntie and I am glad I had an oven to bake them in. It makes my life so much easier.

I am grateful today for the Lord helping me to find good deals on things we need on eBay. I truly believe He guides me to good deals when we are in need of something so we can stay within our budget. I am so grateful.

I am grateful for quiet moments in the day when everything is just that, quiet. With 4 loud children I am grateful the Lord gives me time when I can just sit and not hear a thing. Sometimes that has to be after all 4 are in bed asleep but I am grateful for the time, anytime.

I am grateful that the Lord inspired many people to invent things until we came upon the iPod/iPad. These little devices are one of the only ways I can keep one of my children happy and resting when they are not feeling well. I put on the PBSKids app and she is calm and will lay for hours. For a very active four year old this is a major feat and I am grateful that we have the technology and that the Lord blessed me with the means to own these two devices. I am so very grateful for them today.

10 years ago today I became a mom for the very first time. My oldest has always inspired me to be a better mom and to be a better person. I am so grateful the Lord trusted me with this little ball of energy. Everyday I have her is God's hand in my life, a testament of His love and of His mercy. It has been a short road that I have traveled with my girl but I look forward to many more years.

Today RJ got the house all put back together. That is a huge blessing to me. I am so grateful and happy to have it all done and everything in it's spot. I am grateful the Lord blessed us with the means to do the work we did and the safety to get it done. I am very content.

I am grateful for organization. The Lord blessed me with good organizational skills (OCD my husband calls it) and I love the feeling of a clear, organized space. I just cleaned my floors after 3 weeks of construction. I feel much better. I am grateful the Lord is organized and that the Gospel is organized. It makes life simpler.

My little girl let me sleep in a bit which I really needed. Since she gets up at 8:30 and is very active this was a tender mercy. She let me sleep on the couch while she sat by me in a chair in a blanket and watched a movie. I was very grateful the Lord calmed her enough that I could catch some much needed zzzz's so I could make it through the day.

My sweet brother today came home from work and sanded our walls for us to help out RJ. He also bought some cleaning supplies we needed for our floor. It was a very kind gesture and I am grateful that the Lord gave me a kind brother. Well, I have many kind brothers who do a lot for me. I am very, very blessed.

Day 308 of 2014

Another miracle today that had to do with my husband. He drilled into an electrical cord while out installing and has no ill effects, didn't even get shocked. The drill was insulated but still, electricity is scary. Also, it did not harm his drill, just the tip of the bit. I know the Lord protected him. By keeping him safe that is a major blessing to me everyday of my life. I don't know what I would do without RJ.  I am grateful the Lord protects my family and loves them just as much as He loves me, as much as He loves you.

We received a table today that belonged to RJ's great-grandmother and I am so excited to have it. It was a miracle to fall into our laps at this time when we need it and have room for it. I am very blessed that the Lord is in all the details of my life.

This was a good weekend and today just sealed it. It was a good Sunday with family time and spiritual time. It was relaxing and peaceful (as peaceful as you can get with 4 wild children). I am very grateful the Lord blessed me with this whole weekend and then gave me today to ice my cake.

RJ still has a hand. That is what I am most grateful for today. He cut himself on a saw and did not permenatly damage anything. He was blessed and I am very grateful.
